Is there a GitHub Mobile for GitLab? The closest options in 2026

By Melih Toksari, developer of MergeBell · Updated · 3 min read

Short answer

No. GitHub Mobile is GitHub's own app for notifications, pull request review and Copilot. GitLab Inc. has no equivalent, and the request for one has been open since 2022. GitLab users get closest with a third-party app built on the GitLab To-Do List: MergeBell or Glabby on Android, GLab or Greenlight: CI on iPhone. GitLab's email notifications and its MCP server for AI assistants cover the rest.

Developers who move from GitHub to GitLab often ask the same thing: where is the app? GitHub ships GitHub Mobile for Android and iOS. GitLab does not ship anything similar. Here is what GitHub Mobile actually does, and the closest way to get each part of it with GitLab.

What does GitHub Mobile do?

According to GitHub’s documentation, GitHub Mobile lets you:

  • Triage notifications — manage and clear them, with push notifications when someone mentions you.
  • Read and review issues and pull requests, collaborate on them, and edit files in a pull request.
  • Search and browse users, repositories and organisations, and search code within a repository.
  • Secure your account — two-factor authentication and approving sign-ins from new devices.
  • Use Copilot — ask coding questions in Copilot Chat and assign issues to Copilot.

It runs on Android and iOS, and also works with GitHub Enterprise Server 3.0 or later when an enterprise owner turns mobile support on.

Is there an official GitLab app?

No. GitLab Inc. has not published an app on Google Play or the App Store. The issue asking for one has been open since July 2022 with no milestone. On a phone, GitLab gives you its mobile website, email notifications, integrations such as the GitLab for Slack app, and — since GitLab 19.5 — an MCP server that AI assistants can use. (More in does GitLab have a mobile app?)

GitHub Mobile, feature by feature, on GitLab

GitHub Mobile GitLab’s equivalent On a phone today
Notifications inbox The To-Do List: review requests, mentions, assignments, failed pipelines MergeBell’s inbox (free), Glabby’s inbox (free), GLab’s To-Do inbox
Push when you’re mentioned Email only; GitLab has no native push MergeBell (free, every 5 minutes; faster on Pro), Glabby (Pro), Greenlight: CI (gitlab.com only), Comeet
Review pull requests Merge request review: diffs, line comments, Start a review MergeBell, Glabby, GLab (actions on Pro)
Suggest a change Suggestion blocks that the author applies MergeBell (Pro), GLab (applying is Pro)
Merge Merge, squash, auto-merge MergeBell, Glabby, Greenlight: CI, GLab (Pro)
GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines: logs, retry, manual jobs MergeBell (retry is free), Glabby (retry is Pro), Greenlight: CI, GLab (Pro)
Copilot Chat GitLab Duo, or an assistant on the GitLab MCP server Claude or ChatGPT connected to GitLab
Two-factor sign-in Two-factor authentication with an authenticator app or security key Any authenticator app

The pattern: what GitHub Mobile gives you in one app, GitLab users put together from the To-Do List, a GitLab client and, optionally, an AI assistant.

iPhone

  • GLab — Client for GitLab — the broadest feature list on iOS, including an Apple Watch app; free to read, with every action on Pro.

If you use self-managed GitLab

GitHub Mobile can connect to GitHub Enterprise Server once an enterprise owner enables it. For self-managed GitLab, check that the app supports your GitLab version and how it signs in. MergeBell supports GitLab 16.0 and later, and GLab lists 14.x and later. Check too whether your phone can reach the instance, which may mean being on the VPN. Our guide to self-managed GitLab on your phone covers certificates and alerts.
